Windows 10 laptop no longer sleeping when lid closed: My Lenovo Yoga 910, since updates in late 2018, is no longer sleeping when I close the lid. I'll pull it out of my backpack sleeve and it will be overheating from lack of airflow or the battery will be dead.

  • If you are using a Windows 10 laptop, you will find each time you close your laptop’s lid Windows 10 automatically goes into sleep mode. That is the default setting on laptops based Windows, and most people think it is very practical, especially when they want to stop working for a short period of time but don’t want to shut down their laptops.

Issue: I have an external monitor and plan on using it, it would be powered by my laptop which is connected via VGA. I have changed settings to 'Do Nothing' when the laptop lid is being closed and the screen turning off & sleep is all changed to 'Never'. However, despite me changing my settings and even creating a new power plan, my laptop goes to Sleep after about 15 minutes of the lid being closed. I am not idle when this happens, I am surfing the net, typing and moving my mouse. Everything is fine when the laptop lid is being kept open but I really want to close it due to space constraint. I have also set my monitor as 'Main Display' and I only use the monitor so its a single screen display.

By default Windows 10 will make a laptop computer to go sleep when the lid is closed.
